Best Time to Visit the Colosseum
Early morning, late afternoon or off-season? The best times to avoid the crowds at the Colosseum.
The Colosseum is busiest between 10 AM and 2 PM, and in the summer months the heat adds to the challenge. The best time to visit is early morning, right at opening, when the light is beautiful and the crowds are thinnest.
Late afternoon is a close second — the stone glows golden and most tour groups have left. If you can travel outside peak season, April–May and September–October offer pleasant weather and smaller crowds. Whatever you choose, always book timed entry in advance.
